For one night a week over six weeks, learn the basic techniques of painting on silk with chemical-free Jacquard green label dyes or Setacolor silk paints. We’ll cover such processes as wet on wet, wet on dry, use of resist, blending, over-painting, and making textures using salt and alcohol.
You can choose to steam set your dyes or use a dye fixative for permanence. Another option is to use Setacolor silk paints, which require iron setting for permanence.
Materials provided will include Jacquard green label dye kit, two blank wearable silk scarves, 8” X 54” or 21.5” X 21.5” – your choice of size, one paintbrush, and full directions for building your own silk steamer. You will gain enough information to experiment on your own after instruction.
The instructor will show you how to build your own stretching system for various sizes of silk and will provide a list of resources for supplies and instructional books.
All skill levels welcome. Classes will take place in artist’s studio in Washington, NC.
