Silk Painting

One-day crash course
Individual instruction

Spend one day crash course (your choice of week day or a weekend day), learn the basic techniques of painting on silk with chemical-free Jacquard green label dyes or Setacolor silk paints. We’ll cover such processes as wet on wet, wet on dry, use of resist for line drawing, blending, over-painting, and adding textures using salt and alcohol.

You can choose to steam set your dyes or use a dye fixative for permanence. Setacolor silk paints require iron setting for permanence.

Materials provided will include Jacquard green label dye kit, two blank wearable silk scarves, 8” X 54” or 21.5” X 21.5” – student choice on size, one paintbrush, and full directions for building your own silk steamer. You will gain enough information to experiment on your own after instruction.

The instructor will show students how to build their own stretching system for various sizes of silk and will provide a list of resources for supplies and instructional books.

All skill levels welcome. Classes will take place in artist’s studio in Washington, NC.
